King Charles

Published by Paula and Sharon on 2nd Oct 2022

Well, it’s been a little longer than usual since our last blog post so we hope everyone had an enjoyable summer! It’s been a busy few months at Jam Attic HQ with a lot of time being spent on new product sourcing, another photo shoot, lots of social media activity and not forgetting our first ever appearance at a country market! In between all that we’ve managed to find time for family holidays, the back-to-school routine and of course, along with the rest of the country – mourned the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

With all the documentaries, press editorial and special features looking back at the life of Queen Elizabeth and contemplating the new reign of King Charles III it seems natural to take a moment to think about the long commitment the new King has shown to a range of environmental and conservation causes.

Arguably ahead of his time, as far back as his first big speech on the subject (in 1970) Charles has spoken passionately about the importance of raising awareness on a broad range of environmental topics. Showing a personal commitment to sustainability he famously started the “Duchy Organic” range of products on his own organic farm at Highgrove, turning a personal project into a successful flourishing business. A strong advocate of carbon reduction Charles has for several years openly published his own carbon footprint as well as taking up patronage of a variety of organizations with the environment at the core of their manifestos - “Surfers against Sewage” and “The World Wildlife Fund” being good examples.

Of course, we all remember that at various times Charles has also been the subject of ridicule (“He talks to his plants to keep them happy”) and has been the target of those who feel a monarch should not engage in political comment about the governments position on climate change.

But whatever the view, we at Jam Attic are pleased to know that in taking up the mantle from Queen Elizabeth and “leading by example”, when it comes to our new King and a subject as close to our hearts as sustainability the message will continue to be broadcast.
